In Carli's free time she enjoys to read, but sometimes she does not use her free time wisely. Don't worry though, she isn't that kid who sits in the back with their phone on the book page, pretending to be engaged in the book. Yet, Carli does go in waves of reading huge amounts constantly to not reading at all. Carli has been struggling lately in reading when an opportunity comes her way. She has read many books in her life, most of them consist of romantic novels. That being said she loves to read Nicholas Sparks books and is a big sucker for any love story. Sadly she only made time to read one book this summer, which she is not happy about. Carli began the Harry Potter series during her summer break, she felt it was time to catch up in the Harry Potter world. The current book Carli has been reading is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, by J. K. Rowling, and so far she has enjoyed what she has missed out on all of these years. Carli plans to finish the entire Harry Potter series by the end of the year, because once she starts something she has to finish it. Carli has been around reading ever since she can remember. Her house is full of many books thanks to her Grandma who never fails to send her and her siblings a new book. Her house library consists of about 200 books, maybe more and almost half are stashed away in her bedroom. No she has not read them all yet, but she still has time to do that. She tends to read for enjoyment only, but wants to begin challenging herself with the books she chooses. With challenging books she finds it hard to get lost in the words, which comes so easily to her with less challenging books. Last year she read about eight books, with only one that was decently challenging. Her goal is to read at least ten books this school year, and throw in a few more daring reads. As a reader she believes this can be accomplished because of how much she has grown through the years in reading and balancing her time between studies, sports, and a social life. Reading has done a lot in her life, and she has used it to help her get through some rough times. Just like a best friend, her books will always be there for her.
Contrary to her love of reading, Carli strongly dislikes to write. She has always felt a bit lost when it comes to putting the correct words and punctuations down on the paper. She feels very insecure when it comes to her writing, and hopes to become more confident this year. She wants to be able to let other people in and read her thoughts without having fear of what they might think. Shamefully she admits in her past years when she was told to peer edit she would partner up with her best friend and tell her not to read it. Therefore she never stretched herself as a writer nor did she ever have the confidence to do it. Carli learned to write as most kids, by doing work sheets with her parents and teachers. Of course she never enjoyed doing them, and never would even think to pick up a pen and paper in her free time. She felt that was a waste of her time, and there was no need to do it. The only time Carli ever wrote is when she was assigned a paper, or she had to write a little check list for herself. She is hoping to change that this year by writing a little bit each day and putting herself in uncomfortable situations, allowing herself to be vulnerable.
